Please see the below weather update from the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans / Baton Rouge.
• Saturday
- Periods of scattered showers and storms.
- Drier weather this afternoon – 10-20% chance for a light shower over Baton Rouge early afternoon.
• Sunday
- Wind chills 20-30 degrees in the morning.
- Cold & Breezy – Highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
• The following will be issued for our area:
- A Cold Weather Advisory beginning Sunday night through Tuesday.
- A Winter Storm Watch beginning Monday night through Tuesday evening.
• Monday - Thursday
- Hard freezes forecasted for our area every day.
- Frozen precipitation – Monday night through Tuesday evening.
- Increased confidence in at least moderate to possibly major local travel impacts due to heavy snow.
- There is a good chance (~50% probability) of seeing snow accumulations of 4" to 8" along/north of the I-12 corridor. More like a couple or less inches south of there.
- Currently, there is a low chance (10-30%) probability of seeing freezing rain accumulations of 0.01" to 0.25", mainly south of I-10/12.
- Expect rapid accumulations of ice/snow on all roads as wintry precipitation arrives, especially elevated roads, as they will already be cold.
- Additionally, we may only be able to get above freezing temperatures on Wednesday for a short time. However, shady areas (especially along eastbound lanes of Interstates 12 and 10, etc.) will hold on to the ice/snow longer, and these areas will likely still be impassable/hazardous for driving Wednesday into possibly into Thursday morning.
