Please see the below weather update and attached slides from the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans / Baton Rouge.

  • An Arctic airmass will move in beginning Sunday and will impact the entire area through much of the work week.
  • Cold Weather Advisories will be needed and Extreme Cold Warnings cannot be ruled out.
  • Sunday night through Monday morning.
    • Cold air continues to surge into the area. That along with strong winds will create very bitter conditions for much if not all of the area.
    • 12 hours possible below freezing overnight.
    • We should see a slight warm up during the day Monday but not much.
  • Monday night through Tuesday morning.
    • 14 hours possible below freezing overnight.
    • Greatest uncertainty in this time frame as the duration for below freezing could be much longer.
    • If precipitation moves in early in the morning or even thick cloud cover we will not warm up much during the day.
    • 22% probability of at least 0.01” ice accumulation.
    • 48% probability of at least 0.1” snow accumulation.
  • Tuesday night through Wednesday.
    • 15 hours possible below freezing overnight.
    • One more night of bitterly cold temperatures and prolonged freezing conditions.
  • Still a HIGHLY uncertain situation for three reasons.
    • 5-7 days away.
    • Models have been shifting around pretty significantly and will continue to do so.
    • Timing of cold air and moisture return.
  • Confidence is still very low on Winter Weather. Expect the probabilities of winter precipitation to vary possibly significantly for the next few days.snow
