from the mayor

Dear Citizens of Central,

As Hurricane Francine approaches, I want to assure you that the City of Central is fully prepared to face the storm. Our team has taken proactive measures to mitigate potential risks. We’ve cleaned all major drainage crossings at Hooper Road and Wax/Magnolia Bridge Road, checked and addressed all known hotspots, and focused on immediate areas of concern.

The Central Police Department, in coordination with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, is ready to ensure your safety. Our Central Fire Department is fully prepared to respond to emergencies. Additionally, we have crews mobilized and ready to take action as soon as it is safe and winds are no longer a threat.

Please remember, if you come across downed trees, do not approach them, as they may involve live power lines. Stay off the roads to allow first responders the space they need to handle emergency situations.

Both DEMCO and Entergy have additional manpower staged and ready to assist. If possible, download their apps to monitor your power situation.

I ask for your patience and understanding during this time. Be kind and generous to those in need. As always, we have prepared for the worst, and we ask you to join us in praying for the best.

If you need to report downed trees in roads or drainage ditches, contact City Services at 225-262-5000.

Before the storm hits, please survey your property and secure any loose items that could block drainage channels.

Stay safe, Central, and we will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Wade Evans
