The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office along with the Baton Rouge Constable's Office and Delta Drug Task Force carried out a summer initiative yesterday evening in the Central area to create a safer environment for residents that resulted in 13 arrests and the clearing of 56 outstanding warrants. More than fifty law enforcement personnel were in the area. In addition, the group towed three vehicles with no proof of insurance.
This comes on the heels of a similar initiative in the Glen Oaks area in June, in which the agencies issued 30 traffic citations, made almost 40 arrests and cleared 114 outstanding warrants.
All three agencies conducted criminal patrols, bike patrols, traffic safety checkpoints and foot patrols going door to door in the Central area, talking to residents and meeting with the children in an effort to foster a safer environment in the neighborhood. Divisions represented from the Sheriff's Office were Community Policing Unit, K-9, Detectives, Narcotics, SCAT, Armed Robbery and Burglary, Auto Theft, Financial Crimes, Warrants and representatives from each substation. Supervisors, including majors and captains from each division, were present.
The Sheriff's Office made eight arrests, clearing 41 outstanding warrants, and the Contable's Office made five arrests, clearing 13 outstanding warrants. The agencies said they have seen an increase in the people coming in to clear warrants due to these initiatives. |
